St Joseph's Primary School - Learning Centre by
Crosier Scott Architects & Kubale Constructions

When the team at St Joseph’s Primary School decided to transform an underutilised library into a collaborative learning centre for their Prep students, they worked closely with Crosier Scott Architects to reimagine the space. The Maxiply architectural range of timber panels perfectly matched the design intent and allowed the architects to be creative with colours, while also providing a durable, aesthetically appealing finish.

Within the brief, the key goals included a need to prioritise flexibility and inclusivity to promote learning outcomes, and the ability to support a wide range of student activities within the space. Additionally, the design was required to meet the Group 1 Fire Rating specifications of the project, and our team worked closely with the architects to ensure we could meet compliance regulations through the use of the Intumescent Fireshield coating on the Maxi Print and Maxi Panel located on the walls and ceilings throughout the project.

The result is an award-winning design that embodies the school’s progressive education philosophy and fosters creativity, curiosity and critical thinking. And most importantly, the kids love it!

To create this vibrant, flexible and engaging space, our plywood panels were incorporated into the walls, ceiling and joinery to stunning effect. Maxi Panel features throughout the design, finished with beautiful warm and natural shades from the Maxi Color range. The simple beauty of Natural Sand brings ambience and harmony to the space, while Red Dust and Sunflower Yellow add pops of colour, creating joyful energy within the room. The chosen colours were carefully selected not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for the psychological effect they can have on mood, to promote optimum learning outcomes. Warm colours including red and yellow have been shown to encourage focus, enthusiasm and motivation, and when used in balance with cooler tones (like Natural Sand) they are an ideal option within an early education setting. Maxi Film Black and Maxi Hex are also utilised for contrast and accents, while the gorgeous wall murals are the star of the show, with the bright colours of the images vividly brought to life thanks to the versatility of our Maxi Print panels.
